It is already in production, just not on your invoice
The tooling debate is over. What remains is an adoption gap, and it widens every quarter.
To the companies still stuck in legal review,
Three months. That is how long some of you take to get a Copilot contract through legal.
Your developers pay for Claude Code themselves and ship with it. The tool you are still evaluating is already in production. It is just not on your invoice.
The tooling debate is over. What remains is an adoption gap, and it widens every quarter.
I have not written a line of code in 2026. My team ships to production every week. Not prototypes. Not demos. Customer-facing code, reviewed and deployed.
The companies pulling ahead did one thing differently. They put agentic workflows inside delivery, not inside a pilot. Startups got there first because they had no committee to ask. Everyone else has a choice: do the same, or watch the gap become a moat.
This is not the end of software engineering. It is the best the job has been in years. Engineers design, review, and decide. Agents type.
If most of your engineers are not building with agents today, you do not have a tooling problem. You have a leadership problem. Buying a license will not fix it.
Neither will an AI committee. You know the one. It writes the standard CLAUDE.md, picks the approved tools, hands out scripts, and schedules meetings to encourage adoption. That is top-down, and this does not work top-down. Find the engineer who ships the highest quality code with the least effort. Give them the mic. Let them show the team what they do, with no committee validation and no meetings in between.
By 2027 the teams running agent-native delivery will not be faster than you. They will be playing a different game. You will still be choosing a tool.
